Migrant Ministry

The mission of this program is to acclimate new migrant workers into the area while they await the crops; once they start collecting paychecks, our support ends. The Oregon Food Bank partners with several Washington County agencies and churches in supporting the seasonal migrant influx into the area. The Food Bank support is primarily Hispanic food staples; we then supplement the basic Food Bank foodstuffs with fresh fruit, juices and vegetables. A team from HUMC visits a camp in the Scholls area, Campo Café, weekly during May and June. This year, Campo Café housed 32 workers and their families including four small children and two women. In addition to financial support and food donations, the program needs men's clothing, shoes, bedding, towels, kitchen utensils (pots, pans, large bowls, spatulas, bowls), and personal care items (razors, shave cream, shampoo, combs, brushes, nail clippers, first aid items, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bath soap)
