Second Season of Community Concerts Tak=
ing Shape The=
idea of hosting free Community Concerts at the Hillsboro United Methodist =
Church – launched successfully for 2007-2008 – is moving forwar=
d for 2007-2008. The=
Intel Singers that were enjoyed in June will be coming back with a new pro=
gram in November. Negotiation=
s are underway with the Encore Brass for a show in October. A high school group seems like a possibility=
to produce a December Christmas Concert.&=
nbsp; We’re hoping to confirm another group to launch the seas=
on in September. The Tualatin=
Valley Accordionists may come next April or May. Dates will be announced as they are confirmed. The=
goal of free concerts for the public is continuing. A basket for free-will offering is put out at inter=
mission time. A separate spec=
ial financial account for Friends of Community Concerts has been establishe=
d in the church office to hold these funds and any other contributions to h=
elp cover expenses. Schedulin=
g an intermission and providing light refreshments has been a nice addition=
to the concerts. The Communi=
ty Concert Committee thanks all who have helped in the past and invites vol=
unteers to lend a hand for future concerts. |

Walk for Unity is September 30 Mem=
bers of our congregation are invited to participate in the annual “Wa=
lk for Unity” set for Sunday, September 30 at 2:00 p.m. The walk is t=
hree miles in length and starts at the Beaverton City Park, 4950 SW Watson =
Avenue. Included in the event are music and a community fair. Participating=
is a way of symbolizing and celebrating the religious and ethnic diversity=
of our county. The event is sponsored by the Interreligous Action Network =
in cooperation with a number of community groups. More information is poste=
d on the fellowship hall bulletin board. |

CALLING ALL YOUTH HUMY – Hillsboro United Methodist Youth BIM - Big Important Meeting – Sunday Sept. 16th at noon in up s=
tairs youth room Parents are invited – [in other words]– Please=
come!! =
We are going to set our regular meeting times/days for both Jr. High=
Youth Group and Senior High Youth Group. We need to consider everyone̵=
7;s schedules and come up with a consensus that works for as many people as=
possible. I would appreciate everyone’s help in doing this and get u=
s off to a great start to a new year. We will also discuss activities and e=
vent ideas, so come with your suggestions and thoughts ready to dive into n=
ew plans. =
So far this summer; we had 6 youth attend Sierra Service Project Cam=
p, 4 youth assisted at Hillsboro Vacation Bible School and we have had a to=
tal of 7 youth meetings. We h=
ave a reunion with SSP groups from Tigard and Freemont planned for the fall=
. But at HUMC, vacation is now over and it is time for us to begin to invol=
ve as many youth as possible. Youth and parents – how do you see that=

nbsp; Please everyone who leads a group, a class or an activity please get =
promotion information about your group, class or activity to me – San=
dra Hunter – before Sat. Sept. 8th.&=
nbsp; Type it up or word process it in what ever way you want it to =
appear and then get me a clean copy to use for our display. You can leave a=
copy in my mail box in the office or you can email it to me at: Sandra@hillsboroumc.org I know you are =
thinking, “well, I’m just doing the same thing I usually do =
211; but – remember, I’m new and don’t know what you usua=
lly do. So – old or new – please get your info to me. Thank you=

This will be a good opportunity for you to advertise your particular=
program. If you are going to put in all that time and effort preparing, it=
would be good if everyone knew about what you have to offer. I thank you in advance for your cooperation in making this Education =
