Family Bridge News

= Our church has bee= n part of hosting Family Bridge homeless families since the program began t= o serve families in 1999. Currently we are on a rotation with other l= ocal churches and serve families once every 8 weeks. Our week require= s 28 hosts serving dinner and overnight and 6 others providing milk and sna= cks. We have wonderful and faithful volunteers, but not enough of the= m. We are currently short 4 dinner hosts, 7 overnight hosts and a per= son to deliver bedding in our coming host week of April 18-25.

= Since September we have been consistently short 4 dinner hosts and 6 overni= ght hosts. Which means that this Outreach program is not sustainable = at our church. After discussion at Outreach and the Administrative Co= uncil the decision has been made to reach out to you for your thoughts abou= t the viability of the program.

= If you feel called to make a commitment, but are hesitant please take a ris= k and try serving with one of our current volunteers. A decision will= be made at the May 3 Administrative Council about whether we continue Fami= ly Bridge or end the program at HUMC. Please contact the Family Bridg= e Co-Coordinator Connie Tripp with your thoughts 503-359-4837. Barbar= a Schultz is currently out of town.

Volunteer Opportunity at HUMC

&= nbsp; Nation= al Rebuilding Day (April 24) is an annual event organized by Rebuilding Tog= ether, a non-profit organization that helps preserve affordable housing by = repairing and rehabilitating homes of low income homeowners, particularly t= he elderly and disabled and families with dependent children. The wor= k may include dry rot repairs, painting, roof repair, plumbing and ele= ctrical repairs, window and door replacement, and accessibility modificatio= ns. During last year's event, over 500 volunteers made repairs on 30+= homes across Washington County.

&= nbsp; The Fellowship Hall of HUMC will be the assembly point for volu= nteers working on sites in Hillsboro. Several members of HUMC ha= ve already volunteered to provide refreshments and are interested in h= elping at one of the sites. If we can muster a team of 4-6 people, the= n we could tackle one of the painting projects. Won't you join = us! Talk to Mary Foote, Christine Webb, or Kevin Proctor for details.=

Contribute Camp Scholarships

Please consider helping to make = church camp a possibility this summer for some of our church members by mak= ing a contribution to the Camp Scholarship Fund. (Did you know that i= t costs a minimum of $315 to send one child to camp this summer?) Help to m= ake some lifelong memories by supporting this fund!

ISing Free Concert

= ISing Community Choir, co-directed by David Walters, will be performing = 220;ISing at the Movies: The Sequel” at Bethel Congregational United = Church of Christ on April 23 – 25. These concerts are free; how= ever, donations are being accepted for the Community Energy Project. = Thursday and Friday’s concerts are at 7:30 pm and Sunday’s conc= ert is at 6 pm. Check with David if you would like more informa= tion.

Summer Camp at Camp Magruder

August 15-20

Super Kids Camp

What a way to finish summer by going to camp! Ride donkey= s, go swimming, fishing, boating, wave -teasing, archery, and craft activit= ies. Stories by the campfire, and making new friends!!

Ages 9-11 (completed 3-5th grade)

Last Chance Camp

It's the last chance of summer to spend at camp with other Jr. = High Students!! A week to make new friends, a week to have fun swimming, cr= eating crafts, exploring faith, pursuing outdoor adventures, boating waveju= mping, playing games, sports, cooking out, and sitting around the campfire = each night.

Ages 12-14 (completed 6-8 grade)

Be sure to register by May 5th t= o apply for the tiered pricing. Scholarships are available. The deadl= ine, to the church office, is May 1. There are forms on the Family Ministri= es table outside the Sanctuary or check with Carol Busby or Christine Webb.=
