Rev. Gwen DrakeSenior Pastor
I was born in a small Eastern Oregon town called Heppner, grew up on a wheat ranch with horses, cattle, chickens, a couple of dairy cows, cats, and always a dog. I have two brothers and a sister. I lost my Dad when I was 14. My Mom is a retired, United Methodist clergywoman who started that profession when she was 55. I've been a Methodist all my life. Upon graduation from Heppner High School, I attended Blue Mountain Community College and Eastern Oregon State College. Then I accepted a teaching job in Melbourne, Australia as a physical education teacher. I stayed four years before returning to get a Masters Degree in Physical Education at the University of Oregon. I worked for Eugene Parks and Recreation as their Fitness Specialist for two years. It was while I lived in Eugene, I received the call to the ministry. It took me awhile to answer it because I didn't really want to follow in the footsteps of my mother. I attended Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA and graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 1987. I have served Myrtle Point UMC, Jason Lee UMC in Salem, Rainier UMC and Clatskanie UMC, and Dallas UMC. I have two daughters: Abbe who is taking a break from college and Emma who is a senior at Dallas High School. I've been a single parent for the last 3 years. I have a 5 year old quarterhorse named Ben and two cats, Zoey and Tiger. I'm a runner, reader, horseback rider. I love movies and the theatre and conversations about life over a good cup of coffee or latte. Gwen & Ben enjoying a day at the beach.
Rev. Lorenz "Lefty" SchultzVisitation Pastor
I was ordained an elder in the Oregon Annual Conference in 1964. After two early appointments in Portland, I moved to the California-Nevada Annual Conference where I would serve for the next twenty years – most of that time serving as a campus pastor and pastor of a university parish. I returned to the OR/ID Annual Conference in 1988. I retired in 2001. Barbara and I met while I was serving as an exchange pastor in the UK, and we were married in 1992. I have two children while she has three. We are blessed with two granddaughters, Brigid and Emily. I love reading, gardening, films and live theater, exploring new places, classical music and jazz. I have always been a devotee of fine choral music – indeed I even have a AGMA pension as a result of six years I spent as a professional chorister with San Francisco Opera in the 1970’s. I very much enjoy my position as part time visitation pastor at HUMC. As has been the case for many years, the seniors whom I visit are my teachers in my own journey into my later years.
