Rev. Gwen DrakeSenior Pastor
It is an exciting time to be at Hillsboro United Methodist Church. I have been honored to serve here since July 1, 2006. I have been a pastor since 1987. You will find me open to questions and ideas. I may not know all the answers, but I'm willing to journey with you. I invite you to come to our worship service on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. You will find the church people warm and friendly, the sermon engaging, and the music uplifting. I was born in a small Eastern Oregon town called Heppner, grew up on a wheat ranch with horses, cattle, chickens, a couple of dairy cows, cats, and always a dog. I have two brothers and a sister. I lost my Dad when I was 14. My Mom is a retired, United Methodist clergywoman who started that profession when she was 55. I've been a Methodist all my life. Upon graduation from Heppner High School, I attended Blue Mountain Community College and Eastern Oregon State College. Then I accepted a teaching job in Melbourne, Australia as a physical education teacher. I stayed four years before returning to get a Masters Degree in Physical Education at the University of Oregon. I worked for Eugene Parks and Recreation as their Fitness Specialist for two years. It was while I lived in Eugene, I received the call to the ministry. It took me awhile to answer it because I didn't really want to follow in the footsteps of my mother. I attended Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA and graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 1987. I have served Myrtle Point UMC, Jason Lee UMC in Salem, Rainier UMC and Clatskanie UMC, and Dallas UMC. I am a single parent of two daughters: Abbe who is a senior at Oregon State University and Emma who lives with her husband in Ocenside, California. I have a 7 year old quarterhorse named Ben and two cats, Zoey and Tiger. I'm a runner, reader, horseback rider. I love movies and the theatre and conversations about life. Rev. Lorenz "Lefty" SchultzVisitation Pastor
I was ordained an elder in the Oregon Annual Conference in 1964. After two early appointments in Portland, I moved to the California-Nevada Annual Conference where I would serve for the next twenty years – most of that time serving as a campus pastor and pastor of a university parish. I returned to the OR/ID Annual Conference in 1988. I retired in 2001. Barbara and I met while I was serving as an exchange pastor in the UK, and we were married in 1992. I have two children while she has three. We are blessed with two granddaughters, Brigid and Emily. I love reading, gardening, films and live theater, exploring new places, classical music and jazz. I have always been a devotee of fine choral music – indeed I even have a AGMA pension as a result of six years I spent as a professional chorister with San Francisco Opera in the 1970’s. I very much enjoy my position as part time visitation pastor at HUMC. As has been the case for many years, the seniors whom I visit are my teachers in my own journey into my later years. David WaltersMusic MinisterThank you for welcoming me so warmly into this family. With so many issues vying our attention these days, I feel that I am a part of something truly important. I cherish the opportunity to effect other's spiritual well-being in a positive way; moreover, the subsequent responsiblity in doing so. I am currently in my last year at Portland State University and I will soon graduate with a Bachelors of Music in Composition. Afterwards, I plan to further my education with a Masters in Choral Conducting, again from PSU. I will have been married for five years this December. My wife, Caitlin and I have no children of our own yet. For the time being, our babies are our Dobermann, Lily and our three cats, Layla, Bailey and Jake. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve. I will do everything I can to further the mission of this congregation either through it's music program or otherwise. I am here for and because of you, the people of this church and I will never forget that.

Christine WebbFamily Ministries CoordinatorHello! HUMC has been my spiritual “home” for the past six years. In that time I have been involved in a variety of projects and committees but my passion has always been working with families. Whether serving with the Worship committee or planning our annual Advent Festival or Seder Dinner, I have worked diligently to create spiritual spaces that include and support families. When the Family Ministries position opened in 2008 I took the step to paid part-time ministry with a full heart and not a little trepidation. It has been an exciting and challenging job as HUMC moves solidly toward ministries that acknowledge, support and celebrate the busy lives of our families. I spend most of my time on my feet or at my computer – organizing, teaching and establishing and building relationships with our members. My office doors are always open and I am available via e-mail and cell phone! On the personal side, I was born in a small town in Ohio and attended a tiny Methodist church there. I have been married to Jeff Grimm for more than 30 years. Our children, Adam, Lauren, and Alaina, are all out of college, on their own and gainfully employed. Whew! We live in the country and our home is often used for church-related activities. I have an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Teaching and homeschooled our three children for more than 15 years. I am a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo and teach Taekwondo at Portland Community College two nights a week. My interests include reading, quilting, antiquing and baking. |
